You really should flip this situation over and realize he's doing you a favor. You have been spared years of passionless boredom with a cold fish lover/husband. He probably would have always been critical of how you dressed and what you say to the neighbors etc. He probably would have coached you how to act around his family. You probably need to accept that if one little lie destroyed the entire bond then it wasn't worth maintaining. You can't spend years with someone who won't let you make mistakes or have occasional lapses in judgment. Feel sorry for the woman he is going to marry that will have to put up with his controlling.
